Great story, Alden. I like so many interesting observations, not the least of which is this: "Newton, like all cats, enjoys a kind of intuitive omniscience that allows him to penetrate to the core of an issue regardless of boundaries of space, time, and physics."

What a wonderful way to describe all felines! Well done.

Thank you Larry! I’m not at all surprised that you have a precise understanding of cat nature.

Truth be told, I've never really been a "cat person." But thanks to your wordsmithing, I'm becoming one. :)

…i always dreamed of having a river in the basement after my parents described a night at some corpo food execs castle in the minnesota countryside…mainly to fish at night while watching wine bottles…water is a mess…just as less sexy as it is itself…my revealed preference is leisure…headed to buy and live on a boat…

"...mainly to fish at night while watching wine bottles...Oh I can see it! Candlelight, and a wine glass beside me, gleaming bottles across the room and flashes of light on flowing water and silky spotted trout swimming below the surface. My spine waves with the image... lovely. Best wishes for that boat you're going to buy. What do you do after sitting at the computer for hours when you live on a boat? Climb up on shore, and walk your dogs. Okay then, that makes sense.

I like the term revealed preferences and what it says about us - and I love how you tied it in the story! Is your husband an economist?

It's a fine line between, "Don't Give Up!" And Knowing When to Quit... There are many ways I've been / am more of the don't give up kind of person. It's something I'm in the middle of now. And in that not giving up, I'm seeing how this conundrum will morph into what it was perhaps meant to be all along. Love your writing Alden. You inspire me.
